KUN:ST Newsletter Nr. 43
March 2020
Newsletter deutsch
Dear KUN:ST artist

Spring and autumn of each year are the 'hot' seasons for art and therefore for us too. Important for us this month are the 'Personal Notes' exhibition in Leonberg, the ARTe in Sindelfingen and, of course, the presentation of the artworks and the award ceremony of the 2020 art prizes at ARTe.

From an association perspective, our 'recruitment program', which we announced last month with a separate newsletter, and the simplifications which we are announcing today for our KUN: ST shop are important.

Personal Notes

In March we will be showing in Leonberg the exhibition Personal Notes with the artists Roswitha Bohmann, Petra Nowak, Anja Stemmer and from England our Jane Walker.

The core idea of 'Personal Notes' is to give the individual artist a space and freedom and combine four 'small' solo exhibitions into one exhibition. This exhibition is the pilot for this format.

We cordially invite you to visit the exhibition "Personal Notes" from February 27 to March 22, 2020 and to today's shopw opening on Sunday, March 1, 2020 starting 11:15 a.m.

We want to repeat the Personal Notes format regularly, two exhibitions are already planned for autumn and our artists may register for this format at any time: https://kun-st-international.de/anmeldung-personal-notes/

Art Awards 2020

From the 19th to the 22nd March 2020 the ARTe art fair will take place in Sindelfingen - many of our artists will exhibit their latest positions there. The highlight from the association's perspective is the exhibition of the artworks nominated for the Art Prize 2020 at our booth X8 in the pavilion on the upper floor of the fair. All participating artists with their artworks can already be admired online in our Art Prize catalog: https://kun-st-international.de/kunstpreis2020-katalog/

We cordially invite you to visit the ARTe Art Fair, our Art Prize exhibition and the award ceremony on Sunday, March 22nd, 11.30 a.m. at our booth X8. The digital invitation card grants – as a printed copy presented at the fair entrance – free admission for two people on one of the fair trade days: Download here

Quo Vadis

We now report regularly on Quo Vadis. It is the title of the working group that has dealt with questions of financing and task allocation in Leonberg over the past three months. In essence, we are looking for supporters with muscle and brain strength or a wallet.

Last month we communicated the open tasks under the heading 'Recruitment'. Thank you for your responses and reactions which we first have to structure. It is clear that geographical distances play a role in the physical assignment of tasks. It is also clear that we will not be able to cover all tasks, that we will therefore have to assign tasks to third parties and that we will be dependent on sponsors to finance them.

There is now a small flyer on the last point, 'Become an art patron', which we have in print form in Leonberg and at our events and which we want to use to address customers, interested parties and companies.

General Annual Meeting 2020

Our General Annual Meeting 2020 will take place on May 23rd, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Leonberg in the KUN:ST Quartier, the informal part of a joint dinner will then take place in the Schlosshotel in Höfingen. For better logistical planning, we ask our members to register or cancel their participation using this link:

KUN:ST Shop

In our KUN:ST shop, we changed the participation rules at the end of last year - and, according to your feedback, made it too complex. That is why we are simplifying the rules again from now on. We maintain the flexibility of the duration, the presentation of the artworks on our website and desired price points in the three-digit euro range. And that leads to the following rules:

  • Each artist may register one or more artworks for a fixed period of 3 to 6 months in the KUN:ST shop.
  • The exhibition time ends automatically when the selected duration expires.
  • An artwork can be removed from the shop by the exhibiting artist at any time and / or exchanged up to 30 days before the end of the selected exhibition period. A refund for booked but not used exhibition time is not applicable.
  • As before, a contribution of € 15 per month per artwork is due for the booked rental period. The entire amount is due on the first day of the exhibition term.
  • An artwork in the KUN:ST shop can also be placed in the web shop for a one-off fee of 15 euros for the entire selected exhibition period.
  • For sales in the KUN:ST or web shop, a gallery sales commission of 20% is due.
Every artist of the association may present his/her artworks (and also in the web shop) and we accept registrations any time on this page:

Exhibitions 2020

Registration for the first exhibitions of the year is closed. The registration deadlines for the exhibition LUNA LAKUNA in Leonberg and for the exhibition 'Transparency' in Essen also ended yesterday.

Open for registrations are currently the Sculpture Sommer and the David & Goliath exhibition in Leonberg - for the remainder of the year there will be only Personal Notes exhibitions and the Merry Christmas exhibition.

Sculpture Summer (July 2020)

We often hear that painting and photography are predominant in our exhibitions. Here is the answer: the sculpture summer.

We invite all members who work sculpturally and three-dimensionally to register with their artworks for the exhibition "Sculpture Summer". The registration deadline for the exhibition is April 30, 2020. All sculptural techniques are permitted. We would like to design the exhibition around 15 participants. With this number of artists, we can provide each participant about 5 to 6 linear meters of wall space. The number of respective artworks is then determined by the size of the artworks.

David &Goliath in Leonberg (August 2020)

In April 2020 we present our David & Goliath project at artexpo in New York. The core idea of the project: by combining two different formats and the diversity of the artists and their artworks, we create excitement and thus attractiveness for our presentation and the sum of the artworks is an artwork in itself.

This idea has obviously been well received, as these days 142 David and 41 Goliath artworks are on their way to New York.

And because of this success, we want to bring David & Goliath to Leonberg - from New York directly to Leonberg. We invite not only the New York artists, but all KUN:ST International artists to be part of Davis&Goliath in Leonberg.

The rules remain the same – one may participate with any number of David artworks, any number of Goliath artworks, or any combination of the two.

Our annual 'Sommerfest' (summer party) 2020 falls into this exhibitions time frame, that we combine the 'Sommerfest' and the show opening on Saturday, August 1st, at 2 p.m.

Artists may register for David & Goliath in Leonberg here: https://kun-st-international.de/anmeldung-davidgoliath-2020/

Personal Matters - Artists for Future

As the father of eight children, as a grandfather of 5 grandchildren, as a child of the anti-nuclear force movement, as a supporter of Greta Thunberg, it is a matter of personal concern to me to support projects and activities to preserve and protect our climate, our nature and thus our earth.

Like the project of our artist Jutta Hanna Schwarz, who, as the spokeswoman for the Laufer Kunstkreis, is applying for a sustainability award with her project "Plant-for-the-Planet". In November, trees were planted for a better planet with schoolchildren from the village of Ottensoos with an amount of € 1,513.50, which was raised in an art auction. Jutta wants to continue this campaign by winning the Nachhall 2020 competition.

If you want to support, you can vote for Jutta and her project – and my vote is already counted :-)
